The most impressive day of this trip in Wakayama is probably experiencing the slow local trip on foot in Kada. Travel through this ancient fishing village by the Wakayama Bay and stroll through the old traditional Japanese streets, as if time is still as if returning to the simplicity and tranquility of decades ago, you can relax both physically and mentally.
In recent years, with the launch of the Medetai train in the 南海, the tourist has increased year by year, and it has also attracted more and more local young people to return to 加太. The new town breathes new life. However, in spite of this, many places still retain the original "Japanese style". I believe that friends who are interested in Japanese culture and tradition will love it.
So how should we plan in Wakayama Kaita? There are two ways recommended by Ryan. The first is suitable for friends staying in 紀州加太休暇村; the second is suitable for the general public who visit Wakayama by public transportation.
Route1：深山第一砲臺 > suttle bus to 加太駅 > one-day trip in加太 > back to 加太駅 (this article will intro this route)
Route2：加太駅 > one-day trip in加太 > go to 友島 in the afternoon > back to 加太駅
As the map provided above, the one-day trip route is：加太観光協会、旧加太警察署（中村邸）、常行寺、庄治商店、加太海水浴場、加太北ノ浜公園、加太春日神社、先田よむぎ餅店、旧丸治醤油(レンガ造りの倉庫)、満幸商店、淡嶋神社、加太 大波止(赤灯台)。The whole journey is about 4.5 kilometers, and it is estimated to take about 3 to 4 hours.
Stop 1 (Time required: 60 minutes)
Walk into the mountains and listen to the symphony of nature and history. The first turret of the deep mountain
Due to the factors of the past war, many remnants have been left in the Wakayama Kada area, such as ammunition depots, turrets, tunnels, etc., the most famous of which is "友島", which is located on the west side of 加太ノ瀬戸灣. It is called the Lost and Uninhabited Island; but if you want to explore these remains, there are many places on the island, but the most complete one is the first fortress in the mountains near 休暇村.
Every morning, if the weather permits, there will be a guide from 紀州加太休暇村. The whole trip is only half an hour. You can participate if you are used to getting up early! Because the ruins are hidden in the mountains, it is officially classified as part of the 瀬戸内海國立公園, and a complete tourist route has been established. As long as you walk along the trail and enjoy the forest bath in the forest, you can walk the entire journey in a short time.
The trail extends forward along both sides of the gentle slope. There are many plants and vitality growing on both sides of the road. Stop and listen carefully. There are also various insects and birds rustling.
Occasionally, the stone steps going down were found. These red brick spaces are the ammunition depots of the past. They were set up to defend Osaka Bay.
Entering here seems to have entered the world of animation. The miles from the ruins of the 深山第一砲台, I still have the opportunity to see fireflies when I visit in the summer. Imagine that picture, I can't help but think of the pictures of fireflies in the tomb of fireflies, and the glow of the fire.
Across the forest path, a fresh light suddenly hit my face, came to the observation deck, and looked across the strait overlooking the islands of Toshima and Tojima. When the weather was fine, there was a chance to see Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture and even Shikoku! BTW, from Wakayama Kada Port, there are also steamboats to Shikoku Tokushima.
In the distance, the road and road dyed by the sky together into a translucent blue are probably Awaji Island.

Katai Station, a dreamful station
I took the shuttle bus from 紀州加太休暇村to 加太 Station. 加太 Station is the endpoint on the west side of the 「南海加太線」 connecting 和歌山市站. Since the opening of the 吉慶鯛魚列車, not only locals but also more and more tourists come here. Although the shifts are relatively intensive, the empty bench outside the station seems to have been waiting for someone to talk to them, a little lonely but romantic.
The station is full of patterns of 加太's specialty "snapper". You can buy it from short curtains, seat cushions in the station, even limited capsule machines, small coin purses! The former Kada Police Station during the Taisho Romantic Period, now 中村邸
In 1921, a century ago, during the Taisho era of Japan's integrity, this police station was the same as the 深山砲台 and was established for military purposes. Although there is only the main body and a simple interrogation room, this wooden double-story western-style brick building has been retained to this day, and has been registered as an important cultural property of Japan, and it has also become the residence of local residents. Fortunately, the Nakamura family retained the appearance of the police station and the partitions in the room so that future generations can experience the romance of the Taisho era.
In addition, it reminds me of the immigration office in Tainan, Taiwan, which are also gorgeous buildings, but one is privately owned and converted to public use, and here is converted from a public agency to a private residence.

An agreement with the ancient tree from 500 years ago，常行寺
About 10 minutes from the station, an ancient temple with an unknown creation time is located near the old police station of 加太. Although there is no detailed date of completion, it has been related to the past in the year of the Otake (1528) The literature of this temple can be inferred that it has a history of at least 500 years. In addition to the temple in front of the main hall, other spaces in the temple are covered with graves, but it makes people feel particularly peaceful and comfortable.
There is an ancient tree in the temple, which is designated as a natural monument in Wakayama Prefecture. The estimated age of the tree is about 400 years and the height of the tree is 13 meters. It's hard to look away in fear. However, I heard the Japanese say that because of the impact of hurricanes in the past few months, this ancient tree was not only slightly damaged, but also because of the destruction of time, the whole plant has withered and skeletonized. Japan and Taiwan are the same. In the past, tobacco and alcohol could not be sold privately, so state wineries such as 庄治 Store appeared. The past 70 years are preserved here, including signboards, Sake vending machine, etc. It seems that time is left here, it is suspended. Take us back to the 昭和 period in ancient costumes and experience the most 加太 scenery.
The 庄治 Store is still open, but in addition to selling liquor, it also has some groceries. In addition, its second floor is the former 庄次Hotel, which is for fishermen or businessmen who come to do business in 加太. You can see the glory of 加太港. Although I don't know if there is still a chance to stay here today, I believe that this old past must be a common memory of the store owner and the local residents.

Cheer！加太北浜公園 (加太海水浴場)
加太北浜公園 and 加太海水浴場 are connected to each other. Because it has playground equipment in the shape of 加太“whale”, it is also called Whale Park; it is also a fishing ground here, and there will be many fishermen during the high season Come here in the name; at the same time, not only will many tourists play in the water in summer, there are also many stalls selling barbecues to enjoy! Like 和常行寺, it is unclear when the 加太春日神社 was established, but the earliest records in the "Murai Family Document" have mentioned the term 「春日社」 since 1330. At that time, the main function of the shrine was to pray for the safety of navigation and to have abundant fish catches. It can be said that it is the central belief of the fishing industry in the Pacific.
加太春日神社 was designated as a national treasure in 1986, but after the devastation of war, it is now retained as an important designated cultural property of the country, and the original old name is still in use today. But not only for praying for a good harvest and flight safety, but also the "Three Gods of Spring Day". It is said that in Japan, no matter how small a town is, it has its own sweet taste; in Kada, it must be these "Feng cakes" with soft skin and red bean filling inside. Walking along with my travel map, in fact, on the Aoshima Sea Road, I occasionally see the shop selling this. Many people on the Internet recommend the 「小嶋商店」, but I deliberately choose another place to eat! This store runs by a pair of grandparents!
The green crust of each cake tastes a bit similar to Taiwan's 「草仔粿」, and the stuffed red bean paste is very full. I am hungry while strolling in 加太, and I can not only supplement the calories, but also feel the local shops. warm. In addition, these cakes are produced daily in limited quantities. It's hard to imagine Japanese food without soy sauce! The soy sauce of 和歌山湯淺町 is very famous in Japan. Although this trip only stayed in Wakayama city, there is an old soy sauce warehouse in 加太 here. The shrine mainly worships the god of medicine 少彥名命, which is famous for healing women's diseases, body healthy, and peaceful birth; it also worships the god of marriage 「大己貴命」, so it attracts many men and women to pray for good destiny.
However, in fact, the most famous in 淡嶋神社 is the "humanoid" (meaning: puppet) that enshrines more than 20,000 in the shrine. It is said that as long as a princess is born in 紀州的徳川家u, this shrine will worship the puppet. These puppets are scattered throughout the shrine's park. Every few steps you can see puppets or decorations with different themes on the ground.

A bright red ornament on the shore of the harbor，加太大波止(赤灯台)
Walking along the embankment from 淡嶋神社, at the end of the road is this symbolic indicator located on the pier:加太大波止. 加太大波止 is also called red lighthouse.
